Look sharp and prepare to defecate within your undergarments! Helldivers 2‘s mysterious Station-81 teases and livestream have given way to an in-game payoff. It’s the massive Illuminate invasion everyone feared.
The bunch of code-cracking via dedicated channels in Helldivers 2’s official Discord server, with players there typing in commands and the livestream showing them results is done. Now, the Illuminate are emerging from the Meridian Singularity en-masse, with their sights set on taking Super Earth.
“Attention, Helldivers: This is a Galactic Emergency,” reads Arrowhead’s latest tweet, “The true Illuminate invasion has begun.
“In a sudden and completely unprovoked offensive manoeuvre, the full Illuminate fleet is emerging from the Meridia Singularity. Nothing is safe – not even the Heart of Democracy itself.”
It added in a fresh Major Order briefing: “Three planets lie between the Illuminate and Super Earth: Widow’s Harbor, Pilen V, and New Haven. The Helldivers are ordered to immediately and aggressively interdict the Illuminate advance.”
This big twist in the Galactic War, which even boasts its own trailer, has been deployed as part of a wider update detailed in a fresh PlayStation Blog. The deployment of some “larger, more powerful “Illuminate enemies is the biggest new addition. There’s the Stingray and the the Crescent Overseer, which are jets that fly overhead and provide cover for the squids and special troops that can call in barrages to fluch you out of cover respectively.
Finally, there’s “a failed Illuminate experiment called the Fleshmob: a Frankenstein’s monster of Voteless parts turned into a brute battlefield force that the Helldivers must work hard to destroy”. Brown trousers time indeed. Larger Illuminate ships are also being teased.
Also arriving with the update are some fresh features. There’s a “robust new weapon customisation feature for the bulk of our primary weapon offerings”, which will see you level up your main gun and get the chance to spice it up with some attachments and cosmetics. Meanwhile, the Superstore is getting an “emergency expansion”, which should do away with some of the waiting for the stuff you want to come back into stock.
Lastly, when the Masters of Ceremony Warbond drops on May 15, the game’ll be getting some extra FRV skins designed to go with four previous Warbonds that were deployed before the Super Earth crazy taxi hit the streets.
