Comprehensive Reveri app review testing hypnotherapy for pain and focus | Tested May 24-30, 2025

Can a hypnosis app developed at Stanford actually reduce pain and improve focus? I was skeptical about trying a self-hypnosis app, but after dealing with chronic lower back pain and frequent migraines, plus struggling with focus issues that were affecting my work, I was ready to try something new.

That’s when I discovered Reveri, a hypnosis app created by Dr. David Spiegel from Stanford. I decided to give it a chance when nothing else was working. And the free trial made it risk free. So I dove in and unexpectedly saw immediate improvement.

After seven days using Reveri my chronic back pain was noticeably lower and my focus levels shot through the roof.

7-DAY QUICK SUMMARY: WHAT REVERI DID FOR ME

  • • Back Pain Relief: Pain reduced by ~33% by Day 3
  • • Mental Focus: Sharper thinking and improved concentration
  • • Craving Control: Less urge for sugar and snacks
  • • Mood & Stress: Felt calmer, more grounded, and less reactive
  • • Sleep & Migraines: Better sleep and fewer headaches
  • • Energy Levels: Fewer afternoon crashes and more sustained energy
  • • Work Productivity: Projects completed more quickly
  • • Overall: Subtle but noticeable improvements across the board

My Reveri App Review: Does Reveri Really Work?

Heather from Better Living on a rowing machine at the fitness center at the Merriweather Lakehouse Hotel With Reveri it’s possible to relieve chronic pain through hypnosis

My Background: Why I Needed This

Over the past few years, I’ve developed chronic lower back pain from overdoing it at the gym. Most likely due to lifting too much weight and not giving enough attention to form during squats and deadlifts. The result is a persistent ache that sits around a 6/10 most days and spikes to an 8 when I’m stressed or sitting too long.

I also get painful migraines triggered from stress and hormones. These episodes completely derail my day and make focusing on anything productive nearly impossible. I don’t like taking medication and usually they don’t even work.

My focus is something else I’ve been wanting to improve. My work involves a lot of writing, content creation, and client meetings. While I genuinely enjoy what I do, I sometimes find it hard to prioritize all I need to do. I often find myself reading the same paragraph multiple times or forgetting important things I need to do.

I’ve tried rehab exercises for the muscle aches, and I regularly do meditation and yoga for general relaxation and wellness. But I was looking for something more targeted to help with any of these issues. And hypnosis came up in my research.

The Stanford Research Behind This Hypnosis for Pain and Anxiety App

The credentials of Reveri’s creator, Dr. David Spiegel is what really convinced me to give this app a try. Not only is he a respected psychiatrist, Associate Chair of Psychiatry and researcher at Stanford University, but he’s been studying clinical hypnosis for over 45 years. It’s truly an impressive track record in the field.

According to Dr. Spiegel, with the Reveri app his mission is:

“To bring the power and immediate effectiveness of self-hypnosis to millions of people.”

He’s also authored over 400 research papers on hypnosis and is considered the global authority on clinical hypnotherapy. His work has been published in prestigious journals like The Lancet and Cerebral Cortex, and his book Trance and Treatment is used to teach hypnosis in medical schools across the country.

Reveri’s Clinical Research That Impressed Me

In his own practice, Dr. Spiegel has seen how effective hypnosis has been for his patients.

“After having worked in Psychiatry for over 45 years and using hypnosis since 1967 to achieve impressive results for my clients… the improvements I have seen are so significant, I knew I had to find a way to bring hypnosis to everyone.”

What’s even better: The clinical research backing Reveri is extensive, and the scientific evidence shows it works.

Research For Pain Management shows:

  • 30-42% average pain reduction in clinical studies (according to research published in The Lancet)
  • 77% of users report less pain after just one 10-minute session (according to Reveri clinical data)
  • Hypnosis can reduce surgical pain by 40%.and shorten procedure times by 17 minutes (according to research published in medical journals)

Reveri’s Studies For Focus and Concentration show:

  • 93% of Reveri members feel more focused after just one session (according to Reveri clinical data)
  • 90% report feeling more rested after sessions

Effectiveness For Stress and Anxiety Relief:

  • 84% of members feel less stressed after one session (according to Reveri clinical data)
  • 81% experience immediate reduction in stress and anxiety
  • 94% of users report immediate relief in clinical testing

This isn’t alternative medicine – it’s legitimate neuroscience.

And according to Dr. Spiegel’s paper published in The American Journal of Medicine,

“If hypnosis were a drug, it would be standard of care.”

Research clearly shows hypnosis changes brain activity in pain processing centers, creates heightened concentration states, and can also be effective for pain relief.

How This Clinical Hypnotherapy App Works

Dr. Spiegel’s research shows that hypnosis affects three key brain networks:

Brain Network What It Does How Hypnosis Helps
Salience Network Monitors incoming information Reduces activity so you focus on healing rather than pain signals
Executive Control Network Manages problem-solving Changes activity to focus on your specific goals
Default Mode Network Controls mind-wandering Keeps you present-focused during sessions

The Science Behind Hypnosis for Pain Relief

Pain involves multiple brain regions that process both physical sensation and emotional responses.

Hypnosis works by:

  • Changing how pain centers communicate in your brain
  • Reducing the “alarm system” activity that amplifies pain signals
  • Creating new neural pathways for processing discomfort
  • Addressing both physical and emotional pain responses

The research is clear: hypnosis results in greater pain reduction in over 70% of individuals compared to other treatments.

Day 1: The Hypnotizability Test and First Session

After downloading the app and starting my free trial, Reveri began with something I hadn’t expected – a hypnotizability assessment. This isn’t just a gimmick; it’s based on legitimate psychological testing that measures how responsive you are to hypnotic suggestions.

My score: 7/10 (moderately high hypnotizability)

I selected two primary goals:

  1. Lower back pain management (current daily pain: 6/10)
  2. Work focus improvement (struggling with sustained concentration)

First session: 13-minute focus enhancement using Dr. Spiegel’s signature technique.

The process involves looking up, slowly closing your eyes, taking a deep breath and letting your body “float,” then allowing one hand to float up like a balloon while following guided visualization exercises.

At first, the “floating hand” technique felt silly, but within three minutes, something shifted. My hand actually did feel lighter, and my whole body started relaxing in a way I hadn’t experienced before. It wasn’t like falling asleep – I was completely aware of everything, just deeply relaxed and highly focused.

The result blew me away: I spent the next four hours in the most productive work flow I’d had in months, completing three articles without getting distracted once.

Days 2-3: Testing the Pain Management Features

This is where Reveri’s AI-powered pain management truly impressed me. The app doesn’t just offer generic sessions – it asks detailed questions about your pain location, intensity, triggers, and patterns.

Day 2 breakthrough: I woke up with my back pain flaring up badly – one of those 8/10 pain days. The session had me visualize my pain on one side of a mental screen, and my body’s solution on the other side, all while maintaining that relaxed, floating state.

About halfway through the 15-minute session, I could actually feel the tension in my lower back starting to release. By the end, my pain had dropped from an 8 to about a 4.

Here’s what really amazed me: The relief lasted for 3-4 hours, which is longer than I typically get from over-the-counter medications, and without any side effects.

Days 4-7: AI Personalization and Rising Scores

One feature I love is the “rising score” that tracks your progress with each session. Watching this improve over the week gave me concrete feedback that the sessions were having a cumulative effect.

By mid-week, the AI adaptation really kicked in. Reveri began recommending sessions right before lunch. I typically hit a mental wall around this time. But, the app suggested a breathing pattern I hadn’t used before, which actually made the focus technique work faster.

The convenience factor is amazing. I have a quiet space in my bedroom for longer sessions, but there are 1-minute sessions for quick refocusing and up to 13-minute deep sessions when I have more time.

I accidentally did one session while there was some loud traffic outside, and I still felt more relaxed afterward.

That’s when I knew this was genuinely different from meditation apps that require perfect silence.

Week 1 Reveri App Results: The Improvements That Convinced Me

The phone shows a purple gradient background with a geometric crystal-like icon containing a question mark. Additional text mentions learning your hypnotizability level and brain style, with personalized recommendations to follow. A purple "BEGIN THE TEST" button is visible at the bottom. By day seven, I was excited to document the changes because they were so noticeable.

Results after 7 days:

  • Back pain reduced by 33%: from 6/10 average to 4/10 daily
  • Focus noticeably improved: Work sessions tripled – from 1-2 hours to consistent 3-4 hour blocks
  • Better migraine management – actual tools for reducing intensity
  • Improved sleep quality – better wind-down routine and more restful nights
  • Noticeable stress drop – felt less overwhelmed even with packed schedules

These results align with the clinical research (according to Reveri data and research published in medical journals).

Honestly, it’s worth trying, especially since it’s free and doesn’t even ask for your credit card.

What I Discovered About This Hypnosis for Pain and Anxiety App

As I dove deeper into the research behind Reveri, I was surprised to learn this wasn’t just designed for my specific issues. Dr. Spiegel’s clinical work spans decades helping people with conditions I hadn’t even considered.

I also discovered something I hadn’t expected – people were using this clinical hypnotherapy app successfully for irritable bowel syndrome. I actually have a friend who’s struggled with IBS for years, so I ended up sending her the link.

Other conditions hypnosis and Reveri could be used for include:

  • Arthritis and joint pain
  • Cancer-related pain
  • Post-surgical recovery
  • Medical procedure anxiety

The app also addresses:

  • Brain fog and attention difficulties
  • Habit control (smoking cessation, etc.)
  • Sleep disorders and insomnia

I was also surprised to learn that some people were using this as their primary insomnia treatment instead of sleep meds

How Reveri Transformed My Relationship With Pain and Focus

After using this hypnosis app for a week, I started understanding why it worked so differently from meditation apps and pain management approaches I’d tried before.

The biggest difference I noticed was that traditional meditation apps always left me frustrated because they ask you to observe thoughts passively. My brain would race even more during those “calming” sessions.

But Reveri’s clinical hypnosis actively focused my brain on specific solutions. Instead of trying to empty my mind, I was intensely focused on healing and problem-solving while my body relaxed.

Dr. Spiegel’s insight about this really resonated with me:

“Parents instinctively have compassion for their kids, but often not for their own bodies. With hypnosis, you develop compassion for your own body and realize it’s doing the best it can.”

A Different Approach to Pain Management

For pain management, I realized most approaches I’d tried were about masking symptoms or just enduring discomfort. The rehab exercises helped mechanically, but they didn’t address how my brain was processing the pain signals.

Reveri actually seemed to change how my nervous system responded to pain, which explains why the relief lasted hours rather than just providing temporary distraction.

What impressed me most was discovering this approach has been used in hospital settings. Dr. Spiegel’s research showed that patients using hypnosis before surgery needed 40% less pain medication and had procedures that were 17 minutes shorter on average.

That’s a serious clinical application.

Understanding the Value of This Clinical Hypnotherapy App

Screenshot showing a purple curved graph rising from bottom left to top right, reaching 100% at the 10-minute mark on the x-axis. Below the graph, large text reads "93% of members like you report feeling more focused after just one session." Smaller text underneath states "Based on improvement data after completing a Enhance Focus Interactive Session." A purple "CONTINUE" button appears at the bottom of the screen.Screenshot showing a purple curved graph rising from bottom left to top right, reaching 100% at the 10-minute mark on the x-axis. Maybe you think you don’t need this, you’ll just try doing meditation first. Well, hypnosis works on a much deeper level than meditation.

Here’s what I think makes the app worthwhile:

1: The Sessions are Quick and Easy to Do

You can choose sessions from 5 to 13 minutes long, and there’s 1 minute mini sessions to ground and boost you too. Which means it’s easy to do this even if you have a super busy schedule.

2. It Measures Your Progress So You Can Just How Quickly You’re Improving

Having a way to see and measure how you’re improving over time is important in any healing journey.  I find it also motivates me to keep going.

The app will check in with you from time to time, asking you to answer a few questions about how you’ve been feeling. You then get a score measuring if you’re improving. I felt improvement in the first week and my score reflected that!

3. Reveri Has Accountability Built In

If you don’t use the app you won’t improve. But it’s easy to forget too.

In the app you can batch schedule sessions and get reminder notifications for whatever days and times work best for you. This is key!

And you never have to stress about whether you’re doing the right style of session for whatever issue you want to work on.

It’s easy and intuitive, which makes it an experience you’re more likely to want to continue.

4. You Can Target More than One Thing to Work On

I’m currently working on chronic pain relief and focus. But you can do more than one session type per day.

Other topics to work on include:

  • Stress and Anxiety
  • Sleep
  • Eating intuitive
  • Building or quitting habits.

There’s also mini courses guided by Dr. Spiegel for deeper work and longer sessions and to promote lasting change. I’m currently starting the 6 session “Sharpen Your Focus” course and will update with my experience once I finish.

This adds even more value to the app and I’m excited to see how much I can improve.

5. It’s a Guided Hypnosis Program Created By a World Renowned Doctor with almost 50 Years of Research

Reveri isn’t competing with general meditation apps like Headspace or Calm. It’s providing clinical therapy from one of the world’s leading medical experts.

And its interactive technology that can adapt to my specific responses felt more like having a personalized therapist than using pre-recorded content.

Reveri’s is priced at $24.99 a month or $99.99 a year. I truly believe it’s worth it to commit to a year of this. And I’m confident you’ll see improvement in whatever issue you’re tackling in a short time.

At about $8.33 monthly with the annual plan, you’re getting 24/7 access to Stanford-level clinical expertise. That’s way less than a single therapy session, and the cost of chiropractic visits and pain relief products that only provide a temporary fix.

And it works.

Fact: Over 100,000 Americans die from drug overdoses annually, with two-thirds involving opioids. Hypnosis may provide an effective, non-pharmaceutical pain management alternative to prescription drugs.

Being Honest About My Reveri Focus and Pain Review Experience

After seven days, I want to be completely transparent about what I experienced while staying realistic about expectations.

Reveri didn’t eliminate my chronic pain completely -I still have some challenging days, and I still need to be mindful of my physical limitations. But what it provided was genuinely effective tools for managing both the pain and my reaction to it. When my back flares up now, I have something that works better than just taking ibuprofen and hoping for the best.

I was most impressed by how much my focus improved. Once I established a morning routine with the app, my work productivity transformed quickly in ways I hadn’t experienced with other approaches. The ability to sustain 3 hour focused work sessions became my new normal rather than an impossible task.

I also felt calmer and even my migraine management improved. While the sessions didn’t prevent migraines entirely, I felt I had better tools for reducing their intensity when they did occur.

Why I’m Continuing Past the Free Trial

Screenshot of Reveri app showing "Numb your sense of pain" session options. Top section explains "Mentally apply sensory input like ice or heat to numb your sense of pain" with a "Schedule a session" button. Below shows "You can do this exercise by" with two options: 1) "Interacting • 8-12 min" (marked as Recommended) described as "Interact with Dr. Spiegel by speaking or tapping your responses" in a purple-bordered box, and 2) "Listening • 9 min" described as "Listen to Dr. Spiegel with no need to interact with the app." A purple "BEGIN SESSION" button appears at the bottom.Screenshot of Reveri app showing "Numb your sense of pain" session options. The 7-day trial convinced me that Dr. Spiegel’s research translates into real benefits.

What really sold me was how convenient and intuitive the app is to use, combined with the measurable results I was seeing. Watching my “rising score” improve over the week gave me concrete feedback that the sessions were having a cumulative effect.

This is the first approach I’ve tried that addresses the root neural processes rather than just managing symptoms.

At $99.99 per year, it’s more expensive than some basic meditation apps, but considering how effective and easy to use it is, I think it’s absolutely worthwhile.

Does Reveri Really Work? My Final Assessment.

If you’re dealing with chronic pain, focus issues, or stress-related problems and you’re open to trying something evidence-based but unconventional, I highly recommend taking the free trial.

The clinical research is legitimate, the creator’s credentials are undeniable, and you have nothing to lose with their no-risk trial.

Given that 77% of users report pain reduction and 93% notice improved focus after just one session (according to Reveri data and published research), your experience might be just as positive as mine was.

The key is approaching it with realistic but optimistic expectations. If you’re consistent, you might be surprised by the results.

I’m continuing to use Reveri and will update this review after 30 days and 90 days to track longer-term results. But based on this first week alone, combined with the extensive clinical research backing it, I’m genuinely excited about what continued use might accomplish.
